VILLAGE HALL
More recycling
tips
Income from recycling is now making a significant contribution to the upkeep
of the village hall and it is important to increase our efforts to help meet
the alarming rises in some of these costs. The paper bank has openings on both
sides so, if you find the front one getting clogged, try round the back. If
your cans will not go through the holes in the can bank reach up to the top,
which has a bigger opening. Whilst bottles and jars are very welcome in the
glass banks, sheet glass cannot be recycled in the same process and should not
be propped by the banks. There is a sticker on one of the green glass banks
reminding us what can go in but it is badly torn. Waste Recycling's driver is
scheduled to put a fresh one on during his next visit.
Hiring charges There has been no increase in hiring charges at the Village
Hall for over two years but increased costs for insurance, water, electricity
and particularly for heating oil have forced the Committee to introduce new
charges from Sunday 1 January 2006. The charges for all lettings will be increased
by £1 an hour from that date in order to balance the books. The actual rates
charged depend on which hall is hired, whether you are an Old Buckenham resident
or organisation, the type of use (weddings, dances and parties are more expensive)
and there is a minimum period of three hours for evening use. Lettings to trade
organisations have a further surcharge. Basic hire of the main hall for Old
Buckenham residents will be £5.50 an hour in 2006, the Memorial Room being cheaper
at £4 an hour.
